Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Work Environment

• 42-bed unit
• Every Other Weekend (EOW) schedule
• Floating required
• Work required on 50% of holidays
• Team nursing model: nurse/tech teams managing 7 patients
• Nurse responsible for assessments and medications
• Techs handle lab draws, ambulation assistance, hourly rounding
• Nurse navigator assists with admissions and discharges
• Medication nurse present in the morning
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:5-6
  • Night shift: 1:6

Experience & Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required (accepting first-time travelers)
• Prior travel experience not required
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification preferred

Physical & Work Demands

• Active role requiring ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs
• Exposure to patients with contagious illnesses
• Facility operates 24/7, 365 days a year
• Rotating shifts, holiday work, and work during inclement weather required
• Must be able to:

  1. Work full contract term at assigned location
  2. Work substantial portion of assigned shift
  3. Take call
  4. Work assigned weekends
  5. Work at least 50% of holidays during contract

Certifications & Licenses

• Required:

  • BLS (AHA or ARC Provider card)
• Preferred:

  • ACLS (AHA or ARC Provider card)
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., TNCC for ER RNs starting 11/5/2024)

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 60 days of start
• Additional background screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) required within 60 days
• International background check required if candidate traveled outside the USA in last 7 years
• State-specific background checks and registrations (Missouri FCSR, MO EDL, MO Caregiver Background Screening) required and time sensitive
• Drug screening: Negative 7-panel drug test within 60 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be initiated within 48 hours of signing
• Fit mask test required annually (exceptions apply)
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination required
  • Hepatitis B series or positive titer required (declinations no longer accepted for new candidates)
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (10/01 - 03/31)

Documentation & Verification

• Professional references: 2 required within last 2 years
• Resume must include 7 years of employment history with no gaps over 30 days
• State license primary source verification within 60 days of start
• NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start
• Photo for badge required for new candidates
• Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments required within 60 days of start
