Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)
Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), 5th Floor
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 4:1, may be 5:1 depending on patient acuity
- Responsibilities include care for post-procedural patients and stroke patients
Requirements
- Licensure: Valid New York RN license
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (highest required specialty experience)
- Skills/Certifications:
- Drip experience including Neo up to 100, Precedex, Insulin (glucomander), arterial lines, TR bands
- Stroke care experience
- Post-procedural care experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Epic electronic health record system experience
- Other:
- Return to work (RTO) within 7 days or less, with only 1 holiday allowed during contract
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Required Certifications & Training
- BLS and ACLS (AHA strongly preferred)
- NIH Stroke Certification (valid for 2 years)
- Harassment Prevention Training (New York state requirement)
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit staff)
- Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) if applicable (ER staff)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific documentation requirements)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination
Documentation & Onboarding
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Emergency contact form
- Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, job description acknowledgment, and online learning modules prior to first shift
- References: 2 professional references for travel/allied/per diem acute care roles (within 3 years)
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with IMCU, stroke, and post-procedural care skills who are comfortable working in a fast-paced step-down unit environment.
