Job Opportunity: NICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with NICU specialty for a travel contract position in a Level 3 or 4 Intensive Care Nursery (ICN). This role involves caring for premature and surgical infants, including those with complex conditions and special procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - NICU
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in a Level 3 or 4 ICN (NICU)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; 1st time travelers accepted
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Skills: Experience with ventilators (vents)
- License: Valid RN license for North Carolina
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratios: 1:2-4
- Call Requirement: No call
- Float Requirement: May float to Pediatrics, PICU, or nursery caring for infants up to 12 months
- Weekend Requirement: 3 Fridays, 3 Saturdays, and 3 Sundays over a 6-week period
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- RTO (Return to Office) Policy: No RTO after booking; max 7 days RTO allowed for auto offer
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Patient Diagnoses: Premature infants (as early as 22 weeks), surgical infants, hypoxic injury
- Special Procedures: Therapeutic hypothermia, nitric oxide therapy, UAC/UVC lines, Broviac catheters, tracheostomies, gastrostomy tubes, ostomies
- Equipment: Tecotherm, BCPAP, Ram NC, Alaris IV pumps, Med Fusion feeding pumps, Servo ventilators, HFOV, Baby Leo, Giraffe incubators
- Unit Systems: Pyxis medication system, EPIC electronic health records, SBAR communication, 4P staffing model
- Orientation: 24 hours of unit orientation provided
- Dress Code: Navy blue or white scrubs
Compliance & Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry searches required within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required
- Negative drug screen within 30 days of start
- Immunizations and titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal)
- TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray and physician-signed TB questionnaire required annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
- Medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules required prior to start
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (for travel, allied, and per diem acute care)
- Employment application and skills checklist as applicable
Additional Notes
- Self-scheduling per unit needs
- No call responsibilities
- Unit accepts local candidates as well as travelers
- Strict policy on RTO and call-offs; violations may lead to cancellation
- Candidates must be prepared to complete required facility-specific orientation and compliance training modules
