Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care in an acute patient setting.
  • Deliver holistic and individualized care considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers.
  • Responsible for patient/family education and transitions of care.
  • RN will float to all campuses as census requires.
  • Shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (07:00 - 19:30), including weekend rotation. Flexibility to float mid-shift is required.

Requirements

  • Licensure & Certifications:
    • California RN license required
    • BLS (AHA) certification required
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience required (highest stated requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience:
    • Not explicitly required

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC only (verify by position)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - AHA/AAP only (verify by position)
  • CCRN (Critical Care RN) - verify by position
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - valid for 4 years (verify by position)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - verify by position (typically for L&D)
  • NIH Stroke Certification - expiration 1-2 years from issue date
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - verify by position
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam - required as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - may be required for some units

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
  • FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, Sex Offender Search, and Education Verification required and updated annually
  • State-specific Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List search (if FACIS III cannot be run)
  • Employment application with full 7 years of work history, no gaps
  • Work history verification up to 7 years required
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years (Aya requirement only)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (must clear for work)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
  • Color Blind Exam (in-person) if applicable
  • Respiratory Safety clearance annually (exceptions apply)

  • Candidate must have flexibility to float between campuses and shifts as needed.
  • ICU RNs at this facility may be required to take an EKG exam onsite after start.
