Job Details
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital, Short term, Acute Care
- Total Staffed Beds: 554
- Shift Length: 36 or 48 hour shifts
- Patient Population: Emergency Department with approximately 60%-80% admitted patients; many ED rooms are "ED Holding"
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed (weekend days = Sat & Sun; weekend nights = Fri, Sat & Sun)
- Floating: Floating to Adult PCUs expected; optional floating to Peds ED; potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma Department of Emergency
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals: No locals accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Accepted (NM license can pend at time of submission)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Greater than 7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48); facility may call off 3 times during 13-week assignment
- COVID Vaccination: Required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form
- Orientation: Cerner charting system used; Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group
Experience & Certifications
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years; will review candidates with 1.5 years; Level 1 trauma experience preferred
- Travel Experience: Strongly preferred; candidates with 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience may be considered without travel experience
- First-timers: Accepted with above considerations
- Required Certifications (must have before submission unless noted):
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Must have before submission
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (can pend until compliance doc due date before start)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Other Certifications/Requirements:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Aya requirement)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) if applicable
- MOAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) required for Behavioral Health units
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) through Relias required for certain units
- No RQI certifications accepted
Licensure & Background
- New Mexico RN license required; pending license accepted at submission
- Background Check: 7-year criminal check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Fingerprinting: Required onsite during orientation for NM Department of Health clearance; candidates with prints within past 12 months may not need to redo
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable
- Drug Testing: Negative drug screen within 30 days of start required (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Social Security Card: Required for verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year prior to start
- Fit Mask: Required within 1 year of start; specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation available if needed
- Negative TB or Chest X-Ray: Required within 1 year of start
- TB Questionnaire: Required annually
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer required
- Flu Vaccine: Required year-round with exceptions for exemptions; must be on file prior to start
- COVID Vaccine: No longer required but reporting still done
Additional Notes
- No locals within 75 miles allowed
- Must have valid non-local driver’s license (ID cards not accepted)
- Increased admit holds currently seen in ED
- OT applies after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
- Two professional references within three years of hire required
- Work history verification of 3 years required
- Work Experience Checklist and Confidentiality Statement not required due to crisis credentialing
- Traveler Compliance Form and Background Registration must be completed prior to start
- Candidates must review and sign Welcome PowerPoint acknowledgment prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs with Level 1 trauma experience who are comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and meet the certification and licensure requirements.
