Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Berlin, Vermont

Assignment Details

  • Contract Length: 16 weeks
  • Unit: Women's and Children's Labor & Delivery (L&D)
  • Float required and call shifts: 2 twelve-hour shifts in a rolling 4-week timeframe
  • Schedule: Minimum every other weekend or adjusted to unit/patient care needs
  • Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 4 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year's Day)
  • No block schedules
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly on Mondays

Requirements

  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or PEARS preferred
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year L&D experience, including LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
    • Recent Epic EMR experience (within past 2 years) is mandatory
    • Experience as a baby nurse at delivery, including neonatal resuscitations, assigning APGAR scores, and administering newborn medications post-delivery

Work Environment & Logistics

  • Travel radius considerations:
    • Local rate within 50 miles
    • Reduced rate for 51-100 miles (note: pay details excluded)
  • Reliable transportation required; public transportation is not accessible
  • Personal or rental vehicle recommended, equipped with all-season or snow tires from November through April

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background Check: Within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
  • Education Verification: Required based on job
  • Certifications must be current and verified (AHA standards for BLS, ACLS, PALS)
  • State License verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
  • NURSYS verification for nursing licenses within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Competency exams as required (medication/pharmacology, color blindness, specialty competencies)
  • Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry Consent Form required
  • COVID-19 related requirements:
    • COVID questionnaire and vaccination attestation required prior to start
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • N95 Fit Test required prior to assignment and updated annually (3M Aura 1870+ is the only acceptable mask for L&D)
  • Immunizations required:
    • Tdap within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Pneumonia vaccine or declination if assigned to NY facilities
  • Drug testing as required (not annually for VT facilities)
  • References: 2 professional references from assignments within past 3 years
  • Employment application and skills checklist within 12 months required
  • Work history verification for last 2 years of clinical work

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge (plain light background, no logos/hats/sunglasses) required 2 weeks prior to start
  • Review of dress code and telephone usage policies prior to start
  • Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours, non-billable)
  • Completion of emergency contact form and other facility-specific forms
  • Auto registration form must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract
  • COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work (if required) with mask-wearing and social distancing policies enforced

This assignment is ideal for experienced L&D RNs with recent Epic experience who are comfortable with travel assignments and working in a rural area requiring reliable personal transportation.
