Employment Type: Per Diem
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 06:45 AM - 07:15 PM
Patient Ratio: 1:2

Job Description

Seeking Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of L&D experience. First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years L&D experience
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHOLL Intermediate
  • Epic experience required
  • 2 clinical references (at least 1 leadership reference from assignments within the last year)
  • Separation period: 6 months from last assignment
  • Floating to patient safety sitter as needed

Preferred Certifications

  • AWHOLL Advanced
  • FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)

  • Assist with sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
  • NST (Non-Stress Tests)
  • Reflex checks, edema assessment, clonus
  • Sterile vaginal exam
  • Triage of obstetrical patients
  • Use of External and Internal Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Diabetes mellitus management
  • Multiple gestation care
  • Pre-eclampsia/eclampsia management
  • VBAC management/trial of labor
  • Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Administration of blood & blood products
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Antihypertensives administration
  • Magnesium Sulfate therapy
  • Pitocin (oxytocin) administration
  • Assist with vaginal delivery
  • Circulate and recover C-section patients
  • Newborn assessment
  • Epidural anesthesia support
  • Pain assessment & management
  • Breastfeeding/lactation support
  • Fundus, lochia, perineum care
  • Vaginal delivery and Cesarean section care
  • Couplet care
  • Isolation precautions and PPE use

Orientation

  • 1 day of orientation (12 hours), scheduled based on availability
  • Candidates must complete compliance items timely; no start date delays will be honored

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (including PA PATCH search)
  • PA FBI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year of start; can start with results pending if on file within 45 days)
  • Employment application and recent resume
  • 2 professional references within 3 years
  • Education verification (highest degree/diploma/transcripts)
  • Various certifications verification (ACLS, BLS, NRP, etc.)
  • Pass/fail competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG (except L&D and some other specialties)
  • Health documents including:
    • Physical exam within 90 days of start
    • Immunizations and titers: Hepatitis B, TDAP, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot) within 90 days
    • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccine or exemption documentation
    • Drug testing (negative 9-panel within 1 year; Aya requirement only)
    • Respiratory safety clearance (renew annually)
  • Facility-specific documents including badge photo, vehicle registration (if applicable), and signed agreements (Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, etc.)
  • Completion of WellSpan Health LMS modules and new hire orientation

Additional Notes

  • Floating to patient safety sitter role may be required
  • Patient safety and compliance with facility policies are mandatory
  • Facility births range from 100-200 per month, with preferred settings up to 300 births/month
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system is required
  • Navy blue scrubs required for this assignment
