Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Return to Office (RTO): Up to 5 days off maximum, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
  • Floating: Mandatory float facility; ICU RNs float between Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, and may float to Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation and precepting

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years recent acute care ICU experience
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)

Additional Requirements

  • Must live within 75 miles of the facility (locals preferred)
  • Pending licenses are not accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases and SSN trace
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella vaccine or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required as of 8/21/2025

Competency Exams (must be completed within 12 months of start)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Color Blind Testing (for starts after 1/16/24)
  • General Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (preferred for ER RNs)

Certifications Specific to ICU RNs

  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • BLS (AHA only)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required annually for ICU and related specialties)

  • This is a mandatory float position requiring flexibility to work across multiple ICU units and possibly medical-surgical units.
  • Orientation week is on day shift to facilitate training.

I like floating to different departments so working una variety of settings was a big plus

The parking, I feel they should provide an ability for travelers to pay for parking per month even if at a slightly higher cost compared to staff
