Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
- Shift Options:
- 3x12 hour shifts (Days)
- 4x12 hour shifts (Days)
- Block scheduling available based on traveler preference
- Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Up to 1:6-7
- Required Skills: Proficiency in drips including Cardizem, Tridil, Amiodarone
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live at least 90 miles from the facility (no local hires)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st time travelers are accepted)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Experience working with adult and geriatric patient populations
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Proficiency in Cardizem, Tridil, and Amiodarone drips
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification (official transcript or clearinghouse verification)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (initial and annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug testing: 10-panel within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for placements starting on or after 9/15 (declinations not accepted; medical/religious exemptions require facility form and mask-wearing)
- COVID vaccine is voluntary
- Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (specific approved masks only)
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B as required
- References:
- Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months (may extend to 18 months if necessary)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Core exams I-III (preferred from Prophecy; RN network orientation module not accepted)
- Facility-Specific Requirements:
- Completion of facility modules prior to orientation (deadline: Friday before start)
- APS Clearance Form (Shirley’s Law) must be completed and signed prior to orientation
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no nose ring) within 72 hours of signing contract
- Preferred badge name confirmation

- Name on driver’s license, social security card, and RN license must match exactly.
- Candidates must bring a valid driver’s license on the first day.
- No prior permanent employment at this facility within the last 10 years.
- Must be fully compliant with all documentation and credentialing prior to start.
