Job Opportunity: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

Overview

Job Description

• Role: Hybrid inpatient/outpatient SLP
• Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (Days, 08:00 - 16:30)
• On-Call: No on-call, no float, no weekends
• Focus: Oncology-based care, specifically head/neck oncology, including tracheostomy and laryngectomy care
• Pace: Moderate, with fluctuations
• Common Procedures: Modified barium swallow studies, cognitive, language, speech, and voice assessments and treatments

Experience Requirements

• Required:

  • 2 years of experience (5 years preferred)
  • 1st time travelers are welcome
• Orientation: Approximately 80 hours, with about 72 hours on the floor

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA only, no HeartCode)
• State SLP license (in hand preferred, but pending is acceptable)

Required Skills/Experience

• Dysarthria
• Dysphagia
• Tracheostomy care
• Voice therapy
• Bedside swallow evaluations
• Conducting and interpreting modified barium swallow studies
• Patient/family education
• Assessment and discharge planning
• Point of service documentation
• Experience with young, middle-aged, and older adult cases

Preferred Skills/Experience

• Acute care experience
• Adult outpatient experience
• Experience with CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident) patients
• Familiarity with laryngectomy and augmentative communication
• Conducting Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluations of Swallow (FEES)
• Knowledge of the International Dysphagia Diet
• Experience with modifying diet orders and myofascial release/manual therapy

Candidates must provide answers to the following questions:

1. How many unsupervised/outside of grad school modified barium swallows have you completed per week? Or, how many total?
2. How many total laryngectomy patients have you treated? When was the last time you treated a total laryngectomy patient?
3. Do you have experience with seeing head and neck patients immediately post-surgery? Please provide examples of some of the head and neck surgeries you have seen.
