Registered Nurse – Oncology Acute
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- 19 private beds
- Patient population includes all types of cancer (commonly lymphoma and leukemia), hematology, medical patients, radiation oncology, and gynecologic oncology
- Staffing ratios:
- Days: typically 1:5 (can vary 1:4-5)
- Nights: typically 1:6 (can vary 1:5-6)
- 1:1 staffing for specific medications/therapies as needed
- Charge Nurse present 24/7; may occasionally take patient assignments
- House supervisor available 24/7
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) support the unit:
- 3 PCTs from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- 2 PCTs from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Night shift available for this role
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday requirement: every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Self-scheduling with coordination for time-off requests
- Floating required as part of unit rotation; float shifts are 4+ hours
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
- BLS (AHA) certification
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
Experience & Skills
- Experience administering IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens, including handling precautions (PPE) and monitoring for side effects
- Familiarity with Epic Beacon EMR documentation system
- No requirement for RN to titrate drips; medication adjustments require physician orders
- Common set-rate drips include heparin and chemotherapy (e.g., 24-hour Methotrexate bags)
Equipment & Technology
- Use of Phillips telemetry monitors; RNs are not required to interpret strips
- Respiratory therapy manages BiPAP and CPAP; RNs assist with CPAP only if part of patient’s home regimen
Orientation & Other Notes
- Unit-specific orientation: 24-36 hours (non-billable)
- Drug-free workplace; negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility

- Last four digits of clinician’s Social Security Number
- Clinician’s middle initial
- Requested time off
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation of application process
This position does not require prior travel experience.
