Assignment Details
- Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming (near Colorado border)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit Type: Telemetry / Stepdown (heavy cardiac and cardiothoracic focus)
- Beds: 24
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 6:45 PM)
- Scheduling: Block scheduling and self-scheduling allowed; more block scheduling on nights
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month (flexible)
- Holiday Requirement: Rotation every other holiday (New Year's, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, Labor Day)
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Possible, as part of permanent staff rotation
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Patient Population & Care
- Pre/post cardiac procedures including:
- Femoral and radial heart catheterizations
- Cardioversions on the floor
- Cardiothoracic surgery patients (post-thoracotomy, CABG 24 hrs out)
- Stents, post PCI, vascular procedures
- NSTEMI patients
- Patients with tracheostomies (home vented, BiPAP, CPAP), chest tubes
- Pacemaker wire removal typically done in ICU
Nurse to Patient Ratios
- Day shift: 1:4
- Night shift: 1:4-5
- Nurse aides: 1:8 days, 1:12 nights
- Charge nurse: Day charge does not take patients; night charge takes 1-2 patients
- Rapid response nurse (ARR) available
Required Skills & Experience
- Specialty: Tele/Stepdown RN with cardiac experience
- Experience: Must be experienced with pre/post heart patients including stents, pacemakers, ICDs, CABG, and vascular procedures
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS preferred
- Drip Management: Some drips titrated by RNs (e.g., Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, nitro); dobutamine and dopamine generally non-titratable
- Telemetry: Monitor techs handle monitoring and documentation; RN does not need to be an expert at telemetry strip reading
- Respiratory Equipment: Experience with BiPAP, CPAP, and home vents helpful but home vent experience not required
Additional Notes
- Preference for nurses with stepdown experience over general telemetry
- Heavy cardiac and cardiothoracic surgical patient population with high acuity
- Permanent address must be at least 25 miles from facility location
