Physical Therapy Assistant

Location: Lawrence, Massachusetts

Job Summary

The Physical Therapy Assistant works with residents and care providers to deliver physical therapy services aimed at maximizing residents' functional abilities and independence. The role involves performing therapeutic procedures under supervision, following treatment plans, documenting care, and collaborating with the care team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform therapeutic procedures under the order and supervision of a licensed therapist or physician.
  • Treat residents according to department protocols and therapeutic plans of care.
  • Incorporate resident and caregiver input into treatment sessions.
  • Communicate changes or concerns promptly to the supervising therapist.
  • Attend relevant team meetings.
  • Monitor and progress treatment programs toward functional goals, modifying plans as needed.
  • Document all therapeutic interactions timely and accurately.
  • Recommend and instruct on appropriate assistive devices.
  • Provide education to residents and caregivers, documenting teaching outcomes.
  • Comply with Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
  • Assist in developing new rehabilitation programs and services.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control in clinical areas.
  • Maintain required licenses, certifications, and complete annual compliance courses.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Physical Therapy Assistant license in Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant, including experience within the last year.
  • Associate degree required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Understanding and compliance with Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement regulations.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; lifting over 50 pounds requires assistance.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
