Job Opportunity: Sonographer - Acute Care

Location: Bozeman, Montana
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Summary

The Acute Care Sonographer II provides ultrasound services to assist in diagnosis or treatment, primarily working independently in a highly complex, acute care inpatient setting. Responsibilities include performing ultrasound exams and related procedures, assisting physicians and medical staff, completing documentation, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.


Required Qualifications

  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification in at least one category: OB/Gyn or Abdomen/Small Parts
  • ARDMS certification in at least one advanced category (Fetal Echocardiography, Breast, Pediatrics, Registered Vascular Technology, or Musculoskeletal) OR 10 years of advanced ultrasound practice experience with a commitment to obtain advanced registry within one year of hire
  • American Heart Association BLS certification within 60 days of hire
  • Minimum 2 years of post-graduation experience in advanced ultrasound practice reflecting registration status
  • Preferred: 5 years of post-graduation experience in advanced ultrasound practice

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform ultrasound exams and procedures in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Assist physicians and medical staff during exams and procedures
  • Complete accurate documentation for interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval
  • Perform ancillary duties related to exam distribution, billing, and archival
  • Retrieve and review previous studies and related health information to ensure timely performance and reporting
  • Participate in quality indicator implementation and improvement

Schedule Requirements

  • Regular and sustained attendance required
  • May require working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts
  • On-call work may be required

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Sitting, standing, walking, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, pulling, and fine finger movements required at varying frequencies
  • Close visual acuity and cognitive skills necessary for data analysis, task completion, and decision-making
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations

Additional Information

  • Facility may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
  • Candidates must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered
