Job Details

  • Department: Medical Surgical Ortho-Spine
  • Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45 - 07:15)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Eve + Day = 1 holiday)
  • Floating: May be required to float within competency level
  • Additional Scheduling: May need to work major holidays and pick up one additional shift during the schedule period
  • Cancellation Policy: Employer may call off shifts with 48 hours notice for low census during the 13-week contract

Unit Description

  • 38-bed unit with all private rooms
  • Medical Surgical unit with Orthopedic and Neurosurgery specialty
  • Patient types include:
    • Total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder, ankles)
    • Ortho-spine surgeries
    • Elective cervical, lumbar, and thoracic surgeries
    • Fractures, traumas, limb preservation
    • Incision & drainage of wounds
    • Medical overflow patients (including legal holds – SIs)
  • Staffing ratio:
    • RNs: 1:5-6
    • CNAs: 1:12-15

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Nevada
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years Medical Surgical (Med-Surg) nursing experience
  • Minimum 2 years Orthopedics experience, with Orthopedics experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Job Summary

This position provides comprehensive nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including their families and caregivers. The RN is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, focusing on optimal patient outcomes throughout the episode of care. The role requires strong clinical judgment, decision-making, and coordination with other healthcare professionals. The environment is fast-paced and demanding, consistent with a Level II trauma center setting.

  • Serves a large regional area (500-mile radius)
  • Level II trauma center with stroke accreditation
  • Large hospital with 800 inpatient beds and 80 ER beds
  • Patient volume and pace comparable to a Level I trauma center
