Job Opportunity: RN - Step Down (Cardiac Transitional Care)

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 (option for 48 hours per week upon request)
Weekend Hours: Rotating, with an expectation of every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
Call Requirements: None

Unit Information

• Specialty: Cardiac Transitional Care
• Patient Ratios: 3-4 patients per nurse
• Equipment: Typical Stepdown unit equipment
• EMR System: EPIC
• Patient Population: Cardiac Stepdown patients

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Experience

• Minimum 1+ years of experience in Cardiac Transitional Care nursing
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Job Summary

• Deliver nursing care by developing nursing diagnoses, establishing care objectives, and defining interventions.
• Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
• Monitor, record, and report patient symptoms and changes.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
• Modify treatment plans based on patient responses.
• Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy (including central line care), and other personalized interventions.
• Prepare patients for exams and assist as needed.
• Educate patients and families on health management and disease prevention.
• Maintain compliance with infection control, medication administration, and safety protocols.
• Supervise and delegate duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff.
• Promote a culture of safety and act as a patient advocate.
• Ensure documentation is accurate and timely in patient and department records.

Additional Information

• Flu vaccination required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (exemptions require approval).
• Dress code: Black scrubs.
• Expected to work at least one major winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day).
• Up to 5 days of requested time off per 13-week contract can be automatically approved; additional time off requires leadership approval and may need to be made up.
• Must be a team player with excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Float requirements: Must float as needed within customary unit expectations.
