Job Opportunity: Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist
Location: Rockford, Illinois
Facility: OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center (OSF Healthcare)
Employment Type: Contract Clinician
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
- Provide technical assistance during diagnostic and interventional invasive cardiac procedures.
- Use hemodynamic and ECG monitoring, including data interpretation.
- Scrub assist for all diagnostic and interventional procedures, including preparation and manipulation of catheters, guide-wires, and other devices.
- Inject contrast media and medications from the sterile field under physician supervision.
- Document procedures and patient information per hospital policy.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of OSF Healthcare.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate emergency equipment and assist procedural doctors as a scrub assistant.
- Maintain rooms and equipment.
- Follow radiation safety protocols: time, distance, shielding, and wear protective equipment and radiation badge.
- Practice Universal Precautions to protect self, patients, and co-workers.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings (minimum 60% attendance).
- Complete required cardiac Cath lab competency validations, including:
- Arterial line monitoring, sheath pulling, securing arterial and venous lines
- Coronary intervention hemodynamics (left and right heart pressure monitoring)
- Suctioning and trach care
- Peripheral vascular disease procedures
- Cardioversion/defibrillation
- Pacemaker, IABP, Impella support
- Assist in orientation and training of new employees and students.
- Participate in cross-training and flexible scheduling, including overtime and on-call duties.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of AMA Approved School in Radiography
- Registered by A.R.R.T. and licensed by IEMA
- BLS certification required
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Radiography
- Minimum of 1 year specialized Cath Lab Tech experience
- RCIS certification preferred
- ACLS certification preferred
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds
- Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, grabbing requiring manual dexterity
- Constant verbal and written communication
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors
- Frequent standing, walking, pushing/pulling up to 30 pounds
- Constant use of computer input devices
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and quickly learn and apply instructions
- Constant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and contagious diseases; must use PPE
- Frequent teamwork and collaboration
Additional Notes
- Candidate must comply with OSF’s drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen.
- Flexibility in schedule and willingness to participate in overtime/on-call shifts is required.
- Candidates should be prepared to provide documentation of certifications and experience.
