Radiographer (Radiologic Technologist) - Michigan, Detroit
Job Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, perform radiologic procedures to evaluate pathological conditions as ordered by a physician. Use independent judgment to determine appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Explain examination procedures and prepare patients.
- Review clinical data and obtain additional patient history as needed.
- Prepare procedure rooms and replenish supplies.
- Analyze patient anatomy, set up equipment, and perform radiologic procedures with manual control.
- Select and administer intravenous contrast media when applicable; monitor patients for reactions and provide immediate care if needed.
- Apply radiation protection principles, including shielding and dose reduction techniques.
- Prepare and set up sterile equipment and follow infection control practices.
- Perform patient care functions ensuring safety, privacy, confidentiality, and comfort.
- Complete all documentation, including worksheets, logs, patient records, and radiology information system (RIS) entries.
- Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS.
- Review and confirm clinical protocols with Radiologists before procedures.
- Teach and educate new hires and students as needed.
- Demonstrate teamwork, communication, and customer service excellence consistently.
Work Schedule
- One position: 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM, every other weekend rotation.
- Second position: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
- 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent education or ongoing fulfillment of continuing education hours.
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of Radiology Technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma or Level 2 Trauma patients.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Work in hospital settings including fixed units and mobile units in inpatient, OR, ER, etc.
- Potential exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and contagious patients.
- Occasionally lift or move equipment and/or patients over 10 lbs.
Skills and Personal Qualities
- Excellent radiologic procedure skills and patient preparation.
- Strong computer skills, including PACS and RIS management.
- Knowledge of radiation protection and infection control practices.
- Ability to review clinical data and anatomical structures accurately.
- Flexibility, teamwork, initiative, and willingness to learn.
- Commitment to customer service values including communication, respect, sensitivity, and motivation.
- Open to new learning experiences and respectful of diversity without judgment.
