Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care

Location: Duluth, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Care Overview

22-bed Intermediate Care (IMC) unit
Patient ratios:
- Days: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- Nights: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
Patient population includes complex medical cases such as alcohol-related disorders (ETOH), cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), sepsis
May be assigned medical patients awaiting transfer orders or serve as 1:1 sitter or assist as helping hands
Shared responsibility for call lights and alarms within the unit

Work Schedule & Requirements

Shift: 12-hour variable shifts, including days and nights (example shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed 36 hours per week (except during holidays when the unit may be closed)
Weekend and holiday shifts required every other weekend or less, depending on unit needs
Float to inpatient units as needed
On-call/call-back: may be low censused and placed on call; minimum 2-hour call-back response time
Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility

Required Qualifications

Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Minimum 1 year of Intermediate Care nursing experience
Epic charting experience preferred

Skills & Attributes

Experience with wound care, wound vac, antibiotic therapy, IV starts, neuro assessments, and restraints
Ability to work collaboratively as a team player
Strong work ethic, resilience, and ability to manage change effectively
Independent task management and timely completion of duties
Social and communicative with colleagues

Additional Notes

Preference for candidates with prior travel contract experience in colder climates (Midwest, Northeast, Mountain regions) for winter start dates to ensure reliability during weather events

Orientation week may have variable hours; guaranteed hours apply after orientation
Contract includes eligibility for 36 hours of low census unbillable hours
