Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a 41-bed Cardiac Renal Unit with a high-acuity patient population including telemetry and medical-surgical patients.
  • Patient conditions include Afib with RVR, Afib, flutter, heart blocks, CHF, COPD, sepsis, BH/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis, and heart cath patients without interventions.
  • Shift: 12-hour days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM).
  • Float requirements include floating within skillset to nearby campuses (8 to 11 miles away) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is possible.
  • Weekend/Holiday: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
  • No on-call or call-back required.
  • May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching hospital setting.
  • Scrubs must not display competing health system or agency logos.
  • Attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • One completed travel assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Current certifications: BLS and ACLS issued by the American Heart Association, and NIHSS.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Proficient in telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation with ability to pass telemetry competency tests.
  • Skilled in initiating and titrating drips including antiarrhythmics, Heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, and Tikosyn.
  • Competent in peripheral IV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and nephrostomy tube care.

Additional Information

  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request). Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts.
  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation week or holidays when the unit is closed.
  • No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered.
  • COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7.
  • Unit has strong retention and experienced staff with long-term leadership.
