Job Description

• Perform all nursing responsibilities specific to the orthopedic inpatient unit.
• Implement procedures and theories related to orthopedic nursing care.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implement and modify plans of care through continuous evaluation.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting hazards.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to resolve issues.
• Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
• Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate education.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
• Complete annual education as required for compliance with DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program.
• Assess orthopedic and medical/surgical patients every shift.
• Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, care transitions, and other patient-specific needs.
• Coordinate care with physicians and surgeons.
• Delegate and monitor interventions performed by healthcare team staff.
• Set up orthopedic traction and manipulate surgical traction devices for mobility and wound care.
• Manage wound appliances such as wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year relevant nursing experience.
• ASN (Associate of Science in Nursing) degree.
• Illinois state RN license in good standing.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree (preferred but not required).
