Registered Nurse (Med Surg/Telemetry) - Travel Assignment

Location: Denison, Iowa
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Hours: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts
Schedule: Every other weekend required; self-scheduling with block schedules possible; schedules made about 2 weeks in advance, covering 6 weeks at a time
Patient Census: 21 beds, average census 8-10
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5, rarely 1:6; 3 nurses scheduled per shift

Job Description

• Work in a 19-bed Med-Surg department with telemetry patients
• Care for a broad spectrum of patients including post-surgical, respiratory conditions, cardiac drips, pediatrics (1-2 times per week, pediatric experience not required), orthopedic, wound care, and occasional urology or trauma cases
• Manage titratable drips such as Cardizem, insulin, and heparin (Cardizem drips are infrequent)
• Use Mindray telemetry monitors and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
• Must be able to set up and use Bi-Pap (though respiratory therapists and paramedics assist with Bi-Pap support)
• Floating: OB nurses may float to Med-Surg/Telemetry, but Med-Surg/Telemetry nurses do not float to OB
• Orientation typically includes two shifts with a preceptor on the unit
• Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable
• Housing leads available

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for Iowa
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Med Surg/Telemetry specialty
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA)
• Ability to read telemetry strips and manage cardiac drips
• Preferred: Experience with Cerner electronic health records (training available for right candidate)
• Preferred: Experience in Critical Access Hospital (CAH) settings
• Must be located at least 50 miles from the facility (no local clinicians accepted)

Additional Information

• No on-call responsibilities
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• May float as needed within the unit
• Common diagnoses include respiratory issues, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, orthopedic post-op care, and wound care
• The unit supports skilled services and cares for a diverse patient population
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
