Nurse Manager – Perioperative Services

Location: Carmichael, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Weekend/Holiday/Call Requirements: None

Job Overview

Manage perioperative services across 5 units with a total of 35 beds, overseeing approximately 60 full-time staff. Units include:

• Pre-Assessment Testing (PAT)
• Ambulatory Observation Unit (AOU/Preoperative)
• Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU/Phase I recovery)
• Procedure Care Unit (PCU/Phase II recovery)
• Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, GI recovery, and Endoscopy

Responsibilities include:

• Staff scheduling and timecard management
• Responding to incident reports
• Coordinating supply procurement based on physician requests
• Conducting patient service recovery efforts
• Escalating real-time staff issues
• Supporting throughput and bed management
• Collaborating with Nurse Shift Managers who assist with daily operations

The role involves rounding on patients but does not require direct patient care.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree
• At least 2 years of perioperative nursing experience
• At least 1 year of management experience in a perioperative setting
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (all AHA)
• Experience working in a union environment
• Preferred: prior travel experience
• Preferred: experience with Cerner electronic health record system (not required)

Orientation & Work Environment

• One-week unit/department-specific orientation
• Flexible start times within M-F 8-hour day schedule
• PACU operates 24/7; other units operate 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM
• Dress code: scrubs or business casual; previous manager wore navy blue scrubs when rounding

Additional Notes

• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with the same health system within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable.
• Two supervisory references required: one within the past 12 months and one within the past 3 years.
