Registered Nurse (MedSurg)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Seeking a MedSurg RN for a med-surg unit with 23 beds. The unit cares for surgical patients including orthopedic, general, spinal, and gender reassignment cases. Critical patients are transferred to a larger hospital.

Unit Details

Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:4
Nurse Aide Ratio: 1:12
Tele/Monitor Techs present; RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips
Respiratory Therapy Equipment: BiPAP, CPAP
Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Weekend Requirement: Occasionally/as needed
Holiday Requirement: Occasionally
No call, standby, or floating requirements
Scrub Color: RNs wear black scrubs; nursing assistants wear grey
Unit Orientation: 2-3 shifts (3x12 hour night shifts)

Required Qualifications

Active RN license in North Carolina
Minimum 1 year MedSurg nursing experience
Telemetry experience required; must be able to read telemetry strips
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
Comfortable managing CPAP and BiPAP equipment
No requirement to titrate drips

Additional Information

Charge nurse does not take patient assignments
Critical patients are transferred out of the unit
