Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac PCU (5th Floor)

Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Unit: Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU), 5th Floor
  • Number of Beds: 24
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4 (PCU acuity level), typically 1:4
  • CNAs Ratio: 1:8 (may be pulled for 1:1 sitters), 1:12 at night
  • Hospitalist available (not intensivist)
  • Respiratory Therapist (RT) dedicated 24/7 to unit
  • Telemetry: Offsite central monitoring; nurses interpret their own strips
  • Equipment: Full respiratory equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, ventilators

Required Qualifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – Required
    • NIHSS, CRRN, PCCN – Preferred but not required
  • Skills:
    • Cardiac experience is a must
    • Ability to titrate drips including nitroglycerin, heparin, cardizem, nicardipine, amiodarone, insulin, dopamine, esmolol, labetalol, milrinone, argatroban
    • Charge nurse responsibilities expected
    • Must be able to float within skill set (may float to 4th floor with PCU patient load)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not specified as required

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Shifts: 07:00-19:30 and 19:00-07:30
  • Assignment Duration: 6 weeks at a time (part of the 13-week contract)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend minimum; high needs on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday
  • Holiday Requirement: At least 1 major holiday during the holiday season
  • Call/Standby: None

Orientation & Additional Information

  • Orientation includes:
    • Epic training (can test out if experienced within last year; Epic experience preferred)
    • 8-hour Epic class plus 8-hour onboarding and education day, unit tours, and 1 shift with preceptor
  • Dress Code: Any professional color scrubs
  • Teamwork: Candidate should have a flexible, team player mentality

Common Patient Diagnoses & Procedures

  • TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
  • Post cardiac catheterization with TR bands and femoral stops
  • Temporary/transvenous pacemakers
  • VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery)
  • Lobectomies
  • Post-operative days 2-5 CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
  • Thoracic procedures including femoral-popliteal bypass

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac PCU RNs looking for a short-term contract in a specialized cardiac progressive care setting.

Pros

I was on a med onc unit so might be different culture on each unit. Travel friendly. Staff is great. Ratios were 1-5/6. Schedule was flexible. Cost of living depending on neighborhood was also good.
