Contract

13 weeks

Shift

• 12-hour day shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC
• NIHSS
• 2 or more years of ER experience
• Experience in a facility with similar patient volume, trauma level, and size
• Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam before signing the contract

Assignment Details

• ER/ED setting
• May float to another campus as needed
• May be asked to precept as needed
• Call outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination
• No call or standby requirement

Clinical Setting

• Level III trauma center
• Primary stroke center with comprehensive capabilities
• About 135 ER patients per day
• 30 beds and 2 trauma bays
• Fast track area
• Separate triage area
• ER holds are intermixed
• No separate psych/seclusion rooms
• In-house security 24/7
• RT assigned to the ER 24/7
• X-ray and CT available in the ER
• Phlebotomy available in the ER 24/7

Patient Care / Skills

• Typical ER patients include chest pain, fever, nausea/vomiting, pediatric URI symptoms, altered mental status, trauma, chest tubes, rapid transfusions, and intubated patients
• Common drips include diltiazem, Cardene, nitro, propofol, fentanyl, and levophed
• Nurses monitor their own telemetry
• Charge nurse takes an assignment if needed
• Patient care techs assist with EKGs, wound care, transport, ADLs, trauma setup, and sitter/mental health support

Schedule Notes

• Hybrid schedule with self-scheduling and block scheduling
• Weekend coverage is every other weekend
• Holidays rotate with core staff

Orientation

• 3 shifts in the ER

Additional Requirements

• Copy of driver’s license required at submittal to validate legal name
• Candidate must not have been directly employed by any associated facility within the past year
