Overview

• Travel contract for an ICU RN in Long Beach, California
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour days
• Hours per week: 36
• Unit: ICU
• Unit size: 32 beds, licensed for 40, set up in pods of 8

Required Qualifications

• Active BLS
• Active ACLS
• Active CA License
• 2 full years of ICU experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of experience

Schedule and Assignment Details

• Every other weekend
• Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Holidays rotate with core staff
• Floating: Tele and any ED ICU/Tele holds
• First to float

Clinical Details

• Ratios: 2:1
• Charge nurse present with no patient assignment
• Resource RN may take a patient assignment
• Usually 1 nurse aide on days only
• No monitor techs; RNs read and interpret their own strips
• Drips include pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation
• Ventilator patients: yes
• Hospitalist or intensivist in house
• RT 24/7
• Pharmacy 24/7
• Common patient types include neuro, cardiac, PCI, sepsis, ETOH, stroke, ventricles, TBI, and Camino ICP monitoring

Additional Notes

• Cerner is used for EMR
• No acrylic nails or gel polish allowed during the assignment
