• Local placements: Accepted within a 50-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Level 1 trauma experience
• Previous travel experience
• Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Heparin gtt experience

Unit Details

• 54-bed Neuro MedSurg Acute unit
• Patient ratios: days 1:4-5; nights 1:5-6
• Common patient types include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience, and some medical overflow
• Charge nurse is present 24/7 and typically does not take an assignment unless short staffed and above ratios
• House supervisor is present 24/7
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are on the unit
• House-wide telemetry is used; nurses do not need to read strips
• Phillips monitors are used
• High flow is used for stable COVID only, rarely

Schedule and Staffing

• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating occurs in rotation with the rest of the staff
• When floated to the general unit floor, the traveler takes a full team
• If floated outside the general unit, the traveler only performs skills they are competent in and is assigned with a nurse trained for that unit

Orientation

• 2 days of orientation, including computer and unit-specific training with an educator and one caring for patients with a preceptor

Submission Requirements

• Last four digits of SSN
• Middle initial
• Requested time off

Additional Notes

• Tattoos must be covered while on duty
• No piercings besides ears
• Negative drug screen required for all panels
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
