Job Opportunity: Wound Care Nurse (Registered Nurse)
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Description
- Provide specialized wound care nursing services including:
- Assessing and evaluating patient wounds to determine treatment plans
- Developing and implementing individualized wound care plans
- Cleaning and dressing wounds using sterile techniques
- Performing wound care procedures such as debridement
- Monitoring and documenting patient progress, updating plans as needed
- Educating patients on wound care and infection prevention
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Conducting regular follow-ups to monitor healing
- Adhering to healthcare regulations and safety standards
Work Schedule
- Day shift: 2 shifts per week, 8 hours each (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Total hours per week: 16
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New York
- Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) or equivalent wound care certification
- Experience in wound care nursing or related field with advanced knowledge of wound care treatments and technologies
- Ability to perform wound care procedures including debridement
- Leadership skills for training and mentoring staff
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
- BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
- PALS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including:
- Criminal background check with fingerprinting (FBI-based, completed onsite or as specified)
- Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and Statewide Central Register (SCR) database checks
- Professional license copy
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD)
- Annual TB Questionnaire (for travel agency compliance)
- Vaccination or titer documentation for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination, titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (proof of last season’s vaccination required; flu vaccine can be done onsite)
- COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required
- Drug testing: 9-panel within 1 year of start (instant tests acceptable)
- Medicaid enrollment proof as a provider (RN requirement)
- Completion of facility-specific documents prior to start, including:
- Code of Conduct
- Mandated Reporter Attestation
- Notice of Social Services Procedures
- Emergency Info Card
- Crisis-related forms and releases (time sensitive)
- Two professional references required
Additional Notes
- This is a state-run facility with a slow bid and hiring process; patience is required during the selection period.
- Fingerprinting results must be printed and submitted within 24 hours of receipt to avoid delays.
- Some background and compliance forms are time sensitive and must be completed immediately upon assignment.
