Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Visalia, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Behavioral Health / Psych/Mental Health
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Total Hours: 36 hours per week
- Work Type: Blended (likely a mix of direct patient care and other duties)
- Patient Care Radius: Within 150 miles
- Start Date: June 22 (year not specified)
- Experience Required: Minimum 5 years in specialty
- Prior travel experience: Required (must have at least 1 prior travel contract or equivalent)
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only, must be immediately available)
- Crisis Intervention Training approved by the facility (specific to behavioral health)
Additional Required Certifications (as applicable to unit)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – check unit-specific requirements
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – if applicable
- Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) – if applicable
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – if applicable
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – if applicable
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification – required for behavioral health units, must be immediately available
- Harassment Prevention Training – must be updated annually
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam – must score at least 80%
- Fall Prevention Competency Exam – must score at least 80%
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- 7-year search with SSN trace, aliases, county and nationwide criminal searches, federal district and national federal searches, FACIS screening, and OFAC
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Sex offender search within 90 days of start
- Education verification (diploma or transcript) required for techs; for RNs, license verification applies
- References: 2 professional references verifying recent experience within last 24 months
- Employment application/resume with at least 1 year of current relevant experience
- Unit-specific skills checklist required
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, verifying ability to perform job duties and clearance of communicable diseases
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year prior to start
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer or declination on file)
- Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (Marijuana testing not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); masking required if declining
- COVID-19 vaccination required unless exemption granted with weekly testing
Facility-Specific Documentation and Training (Must be completed prior to start)
- Badge photo meeting facility standards (passport style, no hats/masks, plain background)
- Signed job description acknowledgment
- Fingernail hygiene policy acknowledgment
- Orientation packet review and signed acknowledgment
- Confidential information and confidentiality agreement forms
- Flu and Hepatitis B declination forms if applicable
- Hand hygiene quiz completion
- Elder & dependent abuse quiz completion
- Mandatory annual training study guide completion
- WorkDay time instructions acknowledgment
- COVID-19 screening questionnaire completion
- Sexual harassment prevention training certificate
- COVID-19 vaccine and booster exemption forms if applicable
- Meal period and rest waiver (depending on traveler type)
- Implicit bias training certificate
- Hazardous drug acknowledgment of risk
- Aerosol transmissible diseases training
- Employee health TB risk assessment and questionnaire
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 5 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience
- Behavioral Health nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
