Job Opportunity: Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient

Location

  • Madison, Wisconsin

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract

Contract Length

  • Approximately 17 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Evenings, 8-hour shifts starting between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM
  • Working every weekend
  • 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Pharmacy Technician license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience, including at least some experience within the last year
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Certifications and Training

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) certifications may be required depending on unit assignment
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification/verification required within 30 days of start and upon expiration
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
  • Pass/Fail testing related to EKG/medication as applicable

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including nationwide and Wisconsin-specific caregiver screening
  • Education verification of High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Drug screening required for Pharmacy Department staff within 45 days of start
  • Completion of Wisconsin BID Form and caregiver search prior to start
  • Physical exam recommended to meet agency standards (not facility-mandated)
  • Immunization and health document requirements including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
    • Up-to-date MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or approved exemptions
    • Varicella vaccination or approved exemptions
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form if applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
    • Other vaccines or declinations as required by specific departments (e.g., Meningococcal for Microbiology)

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge issuance (no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start
  • Completion of flu medical or religious exemption forms if applicable
  • Completion of pediatric or adult telemetry exams if assigned to relevant units (not typically required for pharmacy techs)
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing if applicable

  • No explicit prior travel experience required

References and Documentation

  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard)
