Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Registered Nurse)
Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), 5th Floor
- Patient ratio typically 4:1, may be 5:1 depending on acuity
- Care includes post-procedural patients and stroke patients
- Drip experience required with medications such as neo (up to 100), precedex, insulin (glucomander), arterial lines, and TR bands
- Use of Epic electronic health record system required
- Return to office (RTO) within 7 days or less, with only 1 holiday allowed during contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of experience in step-down / Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) nursing, including Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Drip experience at IMCU level of care with Neo (up to 100), Precedex, and Insulin
- Stroke care experience, including NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Post-procedural care experience
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Harassment Prevention Training
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
- Ability to return to work within 7 days or less
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC)
- PALS certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Harassment Prevention Training certificate
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date
- Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (N95 or equivalent)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within the last 3 years (for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles)
- Annual skills checklist
- Completion of facility-specific onboarding modules prior to first shift
- Submission of a professional photo for badge
- Completion and signing of facility-specific job description and welcome packet
