Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical - Trauma)
• Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks out
• Shift Options: 36 or 48 hours per week
• Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call: No
• Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
• Block Schedule: Not accommodated
• Local Candidates: Not accepted (75 mile radius rule)
• Pending License Accepted: Yes
• Guaranteed Hours: Yes
• RTO Restrictions: No more than 7 days of RTO per 13-week contract; missed shifts should be made up ASAP

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years in specialty

• Required Certifications: BCLS, ACLS

• Must pass Relias EKG exam (Interpretation/Management of Dysrhythmias required)

• Required Skills:

  • Med/Surg nursing
  • Blood product administration
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Phlebotomy
  • Starting IVs
  • Insulin administration
  • PCA management
  • Care for spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic trauma
  • Peripheral nerve block catheters
  • Total joint replacements
  • Surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Respiratory support: CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Oral suctioning
  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care/Wound Vac
  • Level 1 Trauma experience

• Patient Diagnoses: Patients come from ED, OR, or ICU

• Unit Services:

  • Geriatric trauma (55+ years with trauma)
  • Trauma cases including abuse/violence victims, motor vehicle accidents, falls
  • Acute care surgery (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)

• Special Equipment Used:

  • Lifts
  • Restraints
  • Wound vacs
  • Traction
  • External fixators

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with Geriatric patients
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Competency in Interpretation and Management of Dysrhythmias
• Blood product administration skills
• Peripheral line care and management
• Phlebotomy skills
• Ability to start IVs
• Insulin administration experience
• PCA management experience
• Management of spinal cord injuries
