Travel/Contract Registered Nurse – MICU

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a 20-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) providing care for critically ill patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, acute/chronic kidney failure, liver failure, overdoses, and septic shock.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2-3 during days and nights.
  • Frequent floating required within scope to various units including Bellevue campus and multiple other hospital units.
  • 36 or 48-hour shift options available.
  • Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period.
  • Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
  • No local candidates accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility).
  • 100% nicotine-free facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start).
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
  • EPIC charting experience required.
  • Drip medication experience required on all floors.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
  • Prior travel experience is implied as first timers are not accepted unless highly experienced; explicit prior travel experience requirement not stated.

Certifications & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days of start, including nationwide and federal checks.
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually thereafter.
  • Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations required: Tdap, MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer), Hepatitis B titer, Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer), annual flu vaccine documentation preferred.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • State-specific registry and abuse/neglect checks required.

Additional Information

  • Travelers are first to float and must be prepared to float frequently.
  • Scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo required (provided after confirmation).
  • Parking available with permit or daily rates.
  • RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates during College World Series (6/11/26 - 6/22/26).
  • Up to two weeks of RTO permitted, subject to manager approval.

This position is ideal for experienced MICU RNs comfortable with critical care, floating, and working in a fast-paced, academic medical center environment.
