Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Auburn, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced ER Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment. The role involves providing critical care in the Emergency Room with a flexible schedule and no blocked scheduling.


Schedule

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • Open to working up to 48 hours per week with overtime after 52 hours
  • 36 guaranteed hours per week (unless signing a 48-hour contract)
  • Every other weekend required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New York
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Certifications required (issued by American Heart Association):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
  • Ability to interpret and manage heart rhythm changes (dysrhythmias)
  • Ability to care for critically ill patients with multi-organ issues
  • Ability to administer blood products
  • Ability to manage central lines
  • Ability to start and maintain IVs, administer IV sedation and vasopressors
  • Ability to care for stroke (CVA) patients
  • Ability to care for ventilated patients
  • Ability to manage BiPAP/CPAP
  • Ability to interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Ability to perform triage

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Active New York state nursing license or compact license
  • If no NY license, must have applied and provide application date

Additional Requirements

  • No disciplinary issues on nursing license
  • Interview conducted via phone or virtual
  • All requested time off must be submitted with application; no time off approved after offer
  • Traveler must arrange coverage for any additional shifts if needed

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by licensed provider
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations and screenings including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine records or declination
  • 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start

Competency & Testing

  • Pass a medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Pass a telemetry assessment (minimum 80%) on cardiac rhythm interpretation on first day of orientation (includes arrhythmias, heart blocks, paced rhythms)
  • Remediation provided if initial assessment is not passed

Old community hospital, doctors are really out of touch, small hospital problems. Lots of drama. Same as every other small hospital.
