Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech (SPT)

Location: North Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 5x8s, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM (Monday - Friday) with holiday rotation
  • Weekend Requirement: No
  • Floating: Yes, may float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities and possibly permanent switch to other campuses
  • Level 1 Trauma Center experience required
  • Types of cases preferred: Neuro, GU, robotics, ENT, ortho, transplant, GYN

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
  • Sterile Processing Technician experience within the last year
  • National certification: CBSPD or HSPA required
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS: Not required for this position
  • Physical Assessment: Must complete and sign a "Physical Assessment for Sterile Processors" by a licensed medical provider within 1 year of start
  • Fit Mask: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
  • Complete employment application/resume with all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year history with SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card required
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable

  • Parking fee applies nights and weekends only

Important Notes

  • Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June - November), especially August and September
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
