Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Job Details

• Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
• Rotating weekends and holidays required
• Floating between units required
• No call responsibilities
• Traveler’s permanent residence must be at least 100 miles from the facility’s service area
• General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs) with 16 hours of non-billable orientation
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
• Additional shifts beyond the work commitment may be flexed based on census/resource needs without penalty
• Expected to actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

• License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Virginia
• Certifications:

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred/required depending on unit
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) highly preferred for ER candidates
• Experience: Minimum years of specialty experience not explicitly stated; assume standard RN experience for Medical Surgical specialty
• Other: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Education verification required
• State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required
• Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start
• Respirator medical evaluation and fit testing completed onsite
• Photo for badge within 48 hours of contract signing
• Completion of facility-specific forms including dress code, uniform guidelines, exposure statements, and policies

• Orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable training
• Floating and rotating shifts are mandatory
• Participation in clinical education for nursing students is expected
• No prior travel experience explicitly required
