Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Dialysis

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

• Guarantee Hours: 40 hours per week
• Monday to Friday: 5:30 AM – 10:30 PM (shifts of 8, 10, or combination of 8 & 12 hours, day/evening based on department needs)
• Weekends: Every other weekend, same hours and shift options as weekdays
• Occasional Sundays due to holidays
• Float required to cover all other dialysis locations

Job Description

• Charge Nurse experience required
• Experience with outpatient chronic and acute dialysis required
• Responsible for charge nurse duties in a 24-chair unit when assigned
• Acute care coverage for an 8-station area
• Skills required include:

  • Chronic outpatient dialysis
  • Administration of blood and blood products
  • Cannulation of AV graft and AV fistula
  • Dialysate conductivity testing
  • Management of dialysis alarms (air foam detector, arterial pressure, blood leak, blood pump, conductivity, dialysate pressure, power failure, temperature, ultrafiltration, venous pressure)
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Infection control and emergency response (air emboli, cardiac arrest/CPR, chest pain)
  • Management of dialysis complications (clotted access, disequilibrium syndrome, fluid overload, hemolysis, hyperkalemia, hypotension, muscle cramps, pericarditis, pyrogenic reaction, seizures)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of dialysis experience, including outpatient dialysis, within the last year
• Experience in charge nurse roles, including charge nurse experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
• National Technical Certification verification
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgement
• State License primary source verification (State License 1 Verification)
• NURSYS verification for RN, LPN/LVN, or AP licensure
• Experience in an outpatient setting

Additional Information

• Unit accepts first-time travelers
• Local candidates must live more than 75 miles away to qualify for travel pay rates
• Float coverage to other dialysis locations is required
