Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Description

  • Level 1 experience desired
  • Minimum 3 years recent experience in Operating Room (OR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Experience working in various specialty areas including:
    • Total Joints
    • Orthopedic Spine
    • Gynecology (Gyn)
    • Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)
  • Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted
  • Call policy:
    • Weekdays: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
    • Weekends: 7:00 AM Saturday through 7:00 AM Monday
    • 40-minute response time required
    • Rotating call schedule with 2-3 weekday calls in the first 6 weeks, weekend calls in the next 6 weeks

Required Qualifications

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kentucky

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - required for Labor & Delivery
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC preferred if applicable)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card (can be completed onsite)
  • Certification for First Assist RNs (if applicable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for applicable units
  • Other specialty certifications as required by unit details

Background Checks

  • County and national criminal background checks within 1 year, updated annually
  • Sex offender search
  • Education verification or signed official transcript/diploma
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually

Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual renewal
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or boosters
    • Hepatitis B immunity or declination (annual renewal)
    • Varicella immunity or booster
    • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation (annual) or approved exemption
    • COVID vaccination series or approved exemption; booster preferred but not required
  • Drug testing within 1 year, updated annually

Competencies and Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%)
  • Color Blind Testing (passing score 80%)
  • Unit-specific competency exams (annual renewal, passing score 80%)
  • Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (annual renewal)
  • RN Math Ability Competency Exam (annual renewal, passing score 80%)
  • EKG Exam (passing score 80%, pass/fail with limited attempts)
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing for ICU, ER, PACU, Telemetry, and other units

History and Documentation

  • Two professional references verified within 6 months of start (supervisor or charge RN preferred)
  • Employment application with explanation for any gaps over 30 days
  • Employment verification for 7 years required, completed 8 business days prior to start
  • Skills checklists as required by specialty/unit, updated annually

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years recent OR experience (higher value from description)
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
