Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (PACU)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shifts: Day/Evening, Monday - Friday
  • Shift Length: 8 or 10 hours between 7:00 AM - 8:30 PM
  • Floating: May be required to float to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs

Required Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • PACU/Recovery room experience required
  • Experience assisting with Pre-op and Phase II Post-op RN duties
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required for Telemetry; must pass Telemetry test before starting
  • Epic electronic health record experience required (preferably within last 12 months)

Required Qualifications

  • Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
  • BLS & ACLS certifications through American Heart Association only
  • Must pass Telemetry test prior to start
  • Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the work site

Facility Overview

  • The Preoperative and Postoperative patient area is located in the Universal Care Center (UCC) with 48 rooms for Emergency, Radiology, and Pre/Post Op patients
  • PACU is a 14-bay recovery room where nurses assess and manage immediate post-anesthetic care
  • Nurses responsible for patient prep, pain management, anesthesia recovery, discharge teaching, and coordination of care

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, nationwide search, and sex offender registry
  • Education verification as applicable
  • State-specific caregiver screening (Wisconsin BID form) required within 90 days of start
  • Drug screening required per Vaya standard
  • Physical exam (collected to meet Aya standard, not facility required)
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • TB test or chest X-ray with questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
    • Varicella vaccination or titer, with exemptions accepted
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required annually during flu season)
    • Other vaccines/declinations as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Telemetry Pass/Fail Testing (Adult and Pediatric as applicable) with remediation process for failures
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment
  • State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams as required
