Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a General Medical/Oncology (GMU) step-down unit caring for general medical and oncology stepdown patients.
- Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy via IV and starting IVs.
- Equipment used: Welch Allyn Vital Sign Towers, Sigma IV Pumps, EPIC for documentation.
- Nurse to patient ratio typically 1:4-6; ratios may flex higher with support staff. Chemo admits decrease assignment ratios.
- Floating to other med-surg areas including Acute Unit (AU) and Emergency Room (ER) to care for med-surg patients.
- Weekend work: every other weekend.
- Scheduling: Weekends assigned by manager/scheduler; other days can be self-scheduled. Block scheduling may be accommodated.
- Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.
Required Qualifications
- License: Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- ONCC or ONS certification (must have one; pending ONS accepted but ONC must be in hand)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years PCU/Stepdown experience.
- Skills:
- Administering chemotherapy via IV.
- Starting IVs.
- Other:
- No call required.
- Must be willing to float to other med-surg areas including AU and ER.
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 30 days of start (annual TB testing not required).
- Proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine.
- Immunizations required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer, no exemptions accepted).
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility declination required.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting after November 1.
- 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
- Fit mask testing required (Honeywell DC365N95HC), with on-site fit test appointment.
Background and Documentation Requirements
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (not specifically RN oncology, but may apply if floating to other units).
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric and certain specialty placements (not specifically oncology RN).
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
- One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
Additional Notes
- Floating to other med-surg areas including AU and ER may require flexibility.
