Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PICU/NICU Float)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks (with opportunity to extend)
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PICU/NICU Float)
- Unit: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), including acute pediatric patients
- Floating: Required to float between NICU and acute pediatric units
- Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend days per month
- On-Call: Not required
- Open to Block Scheduling: No
- Local Candidates: Accepted
- First-Timers: Not accepted unless they have 5+ years of experience
Experience & Skills Requirements
- Minimum Years of Experience: 5 years (due to first-timer restriction)
- Required Skills:
- Experience in NICU and PICU
- Experience in Level 1 Trauma care
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - NRP Essentials acceptable for labor and delivery/postpartum; NRP Advanced required for other units
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses) - Required for PICU; PICU also requires ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (preferred)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN Intermediate (if applicable)
- State Nursing License - Current, unencumbered, with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
- NURSYS Verification - Current and unencumbered within 30 days prior to start
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, completed within 72 hours of signing contract
- Fit mask test completed onsite during orientation (or updated if expiring)
- Immunizations and Titers (must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test (Qgold or Tspot within 1 year) or Chest X-ray if prior positive
- Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines
- Mumps - positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines
- Rubella - positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines
- Hepatitis B - completed vaccine series, positive titer, or declination within last year
- Varicella - positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines
- Drug testing with negative results within 12 months (specific panels required)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
Background & Documentation Requirements
- Current and valid Driver’s License or government photo ID
- Background checks within 1 year of start date, including:
- SS Trace, 7-year County, National Criminal, FACIS III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG exclusion check within 30 days of start
- Sex Offender Search within 30 days of start
- Education verification (copy of diploma or official transcripts accepted)
- Fingerprinting (if applicable) with results on file within 90 days after start
- Employment application with last 7 years of employment history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist current within 1 year for each position worked
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
- Candidate must be able to meet all compliance and health requirements prior to start
- Floating between NICU and acute pediatric units is mandatory
- Weekend work is required (3 days per month)
- No on-call duties
