Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Rochester, NY

Position: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience & Certification Requirements

Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
First-time travelers accepted
Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required (updated annually)
Preferred: Epic electronic health record experience
Other certifications as required by unit: NRP, TNCC, EFM, etc.

Job Details

Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 5 patients with mixed/shared acuity levels
Float required when census warrants
Work schedule includes every other weekend
Block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
Locals within 75 miles are not accepted
Pending licenses are not accepted
Minimal Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions

General Emergency Department care (combined adult and pediatric)
Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
Blood product administration
Central line care and management
Phlebotomy and IV starts
Continuous IV paralytics and sedation
Administration of emergency medications and IV vasopressors
Procedural sedation administration
Stroke (CVA) care
Isolation precautions

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

Identification & Background Checks

Government-issued photo ID required
7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and updated monthly
Education verification from primary source required (no hard copy degrees)
Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally

Health & Safety Requirements

Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
Fit mask test within 1 year, with acceptable mask types specified
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
Drug screening within 30 days of start
Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
Snellen eye exam within 1 year
COVID vaccination documentation preferred but not required

Facility Specific

Clear, passport-style photo for badge
Completion of facility-specific modules (approx. 4-6 hours) prior to start
Various attestations and new hire forms to be completed

Competencies & Exams

Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required
Color blindness testing (one-time)
Competency exams as required by specialty/profession

Licensing & Verification

Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days
Work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
References required for some candidates (2 references within 3 years)

Must be able to complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing
