- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (A5East) focused on cardiovascular diagnoses including congestive heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, infective endocarditis, post-cath lab care, pre-LVAD placement, heart/lung transplants, and pre-valve replacement.
Requirements
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience required
- Trauma Level I experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals not accepted
Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
Skills:
- Cardiac PCU care
- Drips management
- Post Cath Lab care
- IV starts and sheath pulls
- Preferred: Conscious sedation and telemetry
Floating:
- Must be flexible to float to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU units as needed
- Refusal to float may result in contract termination
Weekend Requirement:
- Must be able to work 50% of weekends during the contract
- Weekend schedule based on unit needs
Charge Nurse:
- May be required to cover charge nurse duties with provided training
Call-In Policy:
- Call-ins must be made up during the pay period or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status
Indiana RN Restriction:
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
Orientation & Training
- Precepting and/or student shadowing may be required
- Completion of mandatory RRT modules (for RRT candidates) prior to orientation
- Unit competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams required
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport
- Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no exemptions accepted
- Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31), no declinations accepted
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually
Additional Notes
- Must complete facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
- Proof of auto insurance required only for Hospice specialty travelers
- On-site fit testing available only as a last resort and not at all campuses
- Candidates must be flexible and adaptable to unit needs and teaching environment
This opportunity is ideal for experienced travel RNs with cardiovascular and trauma experience who are comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment with floating and weekend requirements.
