Unit Description

• 2 East – Dedicated Education Unit (Rooms 201-220)
• 22-bed unit focused on teaching new graduate nurses foundational skills during orientation
• Nurses act as engaged preceptors shaping the next generation of nurses

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain units (check unit details)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for Pediatrics, ER/ED, PACU (if applicable)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – Required for OB, LDRP, NICU, Nursery (if applicable)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Check unit details
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or TOVA – Required for Psych, recommended for ED
• NIH Stroke Certification – Required for ICU, PCU, ED, Float Pool; must be updated annually
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – Acceptable in lieu of CPI for behavioral health

Required Documents & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year criminal background check
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check
  • HHS/OIG check
  • Virginia State Police background check
• Fingerprinting: Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check (Behavioral Health candidates only)
• State License: Valid Virginia or Compact State License verification required
• NURSYS verification for RN licenses
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
• Immunizations and health documents:

  • Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella
  • Hepatitis B: positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed with documentation)
• Fit mask test (N95) required annually; onsite testing available
• Required to review and acknowledge multiple facility-specific policies and forms prior to start (e.g., HIPAA, confidentiality, dress code, social media policy, standards of conduct, masking requirements)
• 2 professional references required
• Current employment application/resume required
• Skills checklist updated annually

• Prior travel experience is not required
• Weekend shifts are every other weekend
• Locals within 50 miles are not accepted for this assignment
• Nurses will be expected to work assigned holidays as per policy
