Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (IR RN) - Brooklyn, NY

Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Interventional Radiology - IR)
  • Location: Brooklyn, New York
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 8 weeks
  • Unit: Mixed procedural unit supporting Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology (EP), and Interventional Radiology (IR) with shared prep and recovery area
  • Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3×12s)
  • Shift Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (11.5 hours with 30-minute lunch)
  • Start Date: ASAP (targeted start January 26, 2026)
  • Weekends: Not required
  • Call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to Cath Prep/Recovery

  • Patient Diagnoses: Cancer, GI Bleeds, Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Liver Disease

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (higher value confirmed)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Preferred Experience: Previous charge nurse experience, teaching hospital experience
  • Experience with: 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios, EPIC documentation system

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Clinical Skills & Competencies

  • Pre- and post-procedure care in IR setting
  • Medication competencies including:
    • Antihypertensives
    • Emergency medications
    • IV vasopressors
    • Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
    • Reversal agents
    • Thrombolytics
  • IV Therapy skills:
    • Blood product administration
    • Implanted ports care and maintenance
    • IV infusion pumps
    • PICC line care and maintenance
    • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Professional knowledge and skills:
    • End-tidal CO2 monitoring
    • Infection prevention and isolation precautions
    • Monitoring procedural sedation
    • Obtaining 12 Lead EKG/ECG
    • Pressure ulcer assessment and prevention
    • Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale
    • Sheath removal and monitoring
    • Topical hemostasis (D-Stat, Chito-Seal, Syvek Patch)
    • Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)

Documentation & Systems

  • Medication Management System: Omnicell
  • Documentation System: EPIC
  • Communication Framework: SBAR

Provider Support & Coverage

  • Interpretation services available
  • Pharmacy support
  • NP or PA coverage (not in-house 24/7)
  • Interventionalist coverage (not in-house 24/7)

Orientation & Uniform

  • Orientation length: 11.5 hours
  • Scrubs provided

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including Social Security Trace, New York State search, county/statewide searches, FACIS Level 3, sex offender database, nationwide and international searches if applicable)
  • Education verification required (must verify nursing degree for RNs)
  • Various state and federal exclusion list checks (SAM, OIG)
  • Licensure verification (NY State RN license hard copy with green border required)
  • Drug screening per Aya standard (9-panel within 1 year)
  • Health documents including:
    • Physical exam within 1 year
    • Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Titers/vaccinations for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
    • Hepatitis B positive titer or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption by November 1
  • Required training and competency exams (completed on Relias platform):
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
    • Color Blind Testing (100% score required)
    • Unit-specific Competency Exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (time sensitive, pass/fail)
    • Core Parts I, II, III annually
    • OSHA Mandatory annually
    • NY Harassment Prevention Training Certificate annually
  • Facility-specific documents and acknowledgements (e.g., Code of Conduct, Privacy & Confidentiality, Drug-Free Workplace Policy, Quality & Safety Practices, Staff Handbook, Travel Policy)
  • Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing

References & Employment History

  • Two manager/supervisor references required (charge nurse references generally not accepted unless approved)
  • Verification of work history for the past 7 years
  • Skills checklist updated annually
