Sterile Processing Supervisor

Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Monday - Thursday, 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM


Job Description

  • Oversee sterile processing operations supporting OR, Labor & Delivery, and acute care departments.
  • Manage processing of instrumentation for high-volume surgical cases (approx. 60 OR cases daily) and deliveries (20-25 per day).
  • Ensure compliance with AAMI standards, OSHA regulations, and Joint Commission guidelines, including immediate-use steam sterilization (IUSS) protocols.
  • Handle complex instrument trays for specialties such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, and cardiology.
  • Independently identify and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of recent, full-time experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in a high-volume hospital setting.
  • Current CRCST certification (or equivalent) required.
  • Proven ability to operate independently in decontamination areas without supervision.
  • Verifiable references from at least two prior travel assignments confirming no training was needed.
  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of sterile processing standards and protocols.
  • Must be proficient in all phases: decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and case cart preparation.
  • No entry-level or partially trained technicians will be considered.

Required Certifications and Health Requirements

  • BLS certification (AHA) required.
  • Documentation of immunizations and health status including:
    • MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Varicella immunity (two vaccines, serological evidence, or verified history; no declinations accepted)
    • Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Tuberculosis screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Fit test for respiratory protection required prior to or at start of assignment.
  • Annual influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement).
  • Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually thereafter.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid, unexpired Driver’s License or State ID matching address on file.
  • Professional references: at least two qualifying references required prior to assignment.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and other screenings completed within 90 days prior to assignment.
  • Employment verification for the past seven years required.
  • Completion of skills checklist for sterile processing within one year of start, updated annually.
  • Signed assignment agreement and confirmation of assignment documentation required.
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work must be completed within 90 days of start.

Prior Travel Experience

  • Must provide verifiable references from at least two prior travel assignments confirming no training was needed, indicating prior travel experience is required.
