Registered Nurse - Surgery

Location: Kyle, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)

Job Description

• Perform circulating nursing functions including monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition.
• Manage overall nursing care of patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.
• Ability to work independently with critical thinking and decisive judgment in a stressful environment.
• Scrub experience is helpful but not required.
• Follow Standard Precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
• Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience.
• Operating Room experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

Professional Documentation (Required for Submission)

• Resume or professional profile.
• Two professional references.
• Current, unexpired Driver’s License or State ID matching address on file.
• Nursys license verification within 30 days prior to start.
• License/certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.

Required Onboarding Documents & Testing (Must be completed prior to or at start)

• Signed assignment agreement.
• Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score; updated every 3 years).
• Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.; minimum 80% passing score; updated every 3 years).
• Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite).
• Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules.
• Cerner Test-Out with training checklist and signed attestation.
• Ascension Color Vision test (updated every 3 years).
• Health Statement or physical exam (updated annually).
• Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty; updated annually).
• Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
• Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and EPLS (updated annually or if break in service > 90 days).
• Employment verification for past 7 years (updated annually or if break in service > 90 days).
• Education verification relevant to clinical work (within 90 days of start).
• Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and extensions.

Immunizations & Health Requirements

• MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted.
• Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history; no declinations accepted.
• Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
• Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
• Influenza vaccine is optional; if declined during flu season, mask wearing required.
• TB Screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required.
• Fit Test for respiratory protection (preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite).

Additional Information

• Must be able to work weekends (Saturday, Sunday, Monday) on night shift.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Personal protective equipment use is mandatory.
• Optional: Badge photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no filters).

This position is ideal for an experienced surgical RN comfortable with circulating duties in a fast-paced OR environment during night shifts.
