Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - Travel Assignment

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (1900 - 0730)
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must be specified on submission)

Job Summary

Provide direct patient care on a 30-bed Med Surg unit specializing in medical-surgical, oncology, and neuro-surgical recovery patients. Care for surgical patients including GI, GU, plastics, and orthopedic overflow. Utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Coordinate care with ancillary departments to optimize patient comfort and outcomes.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Valid Driver's License

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week required
  • May be floated to other units based on staffing needs
  • Patient ratios approximately 1:6-7 on night shift (not guaranteed)
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Physical ability to push, pull, grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids is a high risk

Unit & Equipment

  • 30-bed unit with surgical patient population
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo enteral feeding pumps, wound vacs, SCD machines, PCA pumps, low air loss mattresses, and remote telemetry monitors
  • Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC

Scheduling & Additional Details

  • Weekend hours required approximately every other weekend
  • No call requirements
  • Flexible scheduling options available but must be indicated on submission
  • Holiday requests limited to one per assignment
  • Dress code: Black scrubs (Mercy M Wear); other attire not accepted
