Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position
Location: Reno, Nevada
Facility Department: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
Position Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
- Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
- Call Requirements: None
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Licenses & Certifications Required
- Nevada RN license (required prior to start)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Intermediate Care/Stepdown experience required
- Preferred: Medical/Neuro ICU experience
- Must have experience with:
- Vasopressors and titratable drips
- Arterial lines
- Neuro-stepdown patients
- Procedural sedation
- Thrombolytics
- Tracheostomy management
- Must pass an ECG/Telemetry exam (reading/interpreting rhythm strips) — failure results in contract termination
Unit Description
- 18-bed Intermediate Care Unit
- Focus on patients with severe but usually non-life-threatening conditions requiring:
- Moderately complex assessments
- Moderately intensive therapies and interventions
- Moderate nursing vigilance
- Patient population includes post ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke, sepsis, cardiac, and respiratory cases
- Collaborative, multidisciplinary, patient-centered environment
Additional Requirements & Comments
- May be required to float within competency level
- May work major holidays
- Required to pick up one additional shift every 4-week schedule period
- Employer may call off shifts with 48 hours notice for low census during 13-week contract
- Schedule may include weekends and holidays
- Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Eve + Day = 1 holiday)

- Extremely busy, fast-paced environment serving a 500-mile radius
- Level II Trauma Center with Stroke accreditation
- 800 inpatient beds
- Volume and pace comparable to a Level I trauma center
Position Purpose & Scope
- Provide optimal patient care using nursing knowledge and skills
- Accountable for individualized patient outcomes over entire episode of care
- Care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families/caregivers
- Diagnose and treat human responses to health problems
- Perform assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals
- Requires intensive continuous mental effort for safe patient care and decision-making
